Help & FAQ

How to use the Age Calculator

How to use the age calculator

  1. Enter the date of birth.
  2. Leave the second date as today, or change it to find someone's age on a past or future date — for example on a form deadline.
  3. Read the exact age, the totals, and the countdown to the next birthday.

How the age is worked out

The calculator counts how many full years fit between the two dates, then how many full calendar months fit in what is left, then the remaining days. A month is complete when the same day number is reached in the next month; if that month is shorter (for example 31 January to February), the last day of the month counts as the anniversary.

Dates are treated as whole calendar days, so time zones and daylight-saving changes don't affect the result. "Today" is today's date on your device.

Common uses

  • Checking age requirements for school entry, sports categories or visas on a specific date.
  • Working out an exact age in months for a baby or toddler.
  • Counting down to a birthday.
How is age calculated for someone born on 29 February?

In years without a 29 February, this calculator treats 28 February as the birthday, so the person turns a year older on 28 February. Some countries' laws use 1 March instead; check local rules if it matters legally.

Is my date of birth sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and the date is not stored or sent to SomethingTools.

Why might another site show a different number of days?

Month lengths vary, so "1 month and 3 days" can be counted in more than one way. This calculator counts whole years first, then whole calendar months, then the remaining days.
